António Nóvoa é Reitor Honorário da Universidade de Lisboa e Professor Catedrático do Instituto de Educação. Doutor em Ciências da Educação pela Universidade de Genebra e Doutor em História pela Universidade de Paris IV-Sorbonne. O seu trabalho académico desenvolve-se nas áreas da história da educação e da educação comparada, com particular enfoque nas políticas educativas e no estudo da profissão docente.

Sociólogo político da educação, Professor Distinguido de Ciências Sociais e Educação Comparada na Universidade da Califórnia Los Angeles e Diretor da Cátedra UNESCO-UCLA em Aprendizagem Global e Cidadania Global. Licenciado em Sociologia pela faculdade jesuíta Universidad del Salvador, na Argentina, obteve sua pós-graduação no México (FLACSO, Ciências Políticas) e nos Estados Unidos (Mestrado em Educação e Ph.D. em Desenvolvimento Internacional da Educação, na Universidade de Stanford). Realizou seu curso de pós-doutorado em Fundamentos Educacionais no Canadá (Universidade de Alberta). Ex-Presidente do World Council of Comparative Education Societies (WCCES). Membro estrangeiro da The Royal Society of Canada (RSC), e Membro correspondente da Academia Mexicana de Ciências (AMC). Diretor fundador do Instituto Paulo Freire de São Paulo (1991), diretor fundador do Instituto Paulo Freire da Universidade da Califórnia Los Angeles, UCLA (2002), e diretor fundador do Instituto Paulo Freire da Argentina (2003). É também poeta e escritor de ficção literária.

UBUNTU, EMPATIA, E O POTENCIAL TRANSFORMATIVO DA EDUCAÇÃO COMPARADA EM CONTEXTOS TRANSNACIONAIS

N'Dri Thérèse Assié-Lumumba, President of the World Council of Comparative Education Societies (WCCES, 2016-2019) and a former President of Comparative and International Education Society (CIES), is a Professor of African, African Diaspora and Comparative/International Education, social institutions, African social history, and the study of gender at Cornell University in the Africana Studies and Research Center. She joined Cornell in 1991 as a Fulbright Senior Research Fellow and Ford Foundation/Africana Studies Fellow. She served as Director of the Cornell Program on Gender and Global Change (GGC) and as Director of Graduate Studies (DGS) of the Africana Studies. She is a Fellow of the World Academy of Art and Science, Distinguished Visiting Professor in the Faculty of Education at the University of Johannesburg (South Africa), Extraordinary Professor in the Education Policy Studies at the Stellenbosch University (South Africa). She has been a Carnegie Diasporan Fellow in the department of sociology at the University of Ghana, a Research Affiliate at the Institute for Higher Education Law and Governance of the University of Houston (Houston, Texas). She has published extensively on various topics of education, especially higher education. Assié-Lumumba earned her Ph. D. in Comparative Education (Economics and Sociology of Education with Pi Lambda Theta Honors) from the University of Chicago in 1982, two Masters and two BAs (Licence) in Sociology and History, respectively, from Université Lyon II, Lyon (France) between 1973 and 1975 following her first year of university education at Université d'Abidjan (Côte d'Ivoire).
